Need Inspiration – Listen to these 5th Graders!
The McSisters used to think that we are just a small voice urging people to change their single-use plastic habits and could sometimes be stopped by that. Then we heard about a group of 5th graders in New York City that took on single-use plastic in a big way and accomplished so many things, including convincing the New York City Council to ban Styrofoam from their school lunch program.
Now, students’ lunches are no longer served on Styrofoam trays – that removes 850,000 trays per day from the waste dumped in landfills, and as a great benefit, protects young people from exposure to the toxic chemicals in the Styrofoam.
Cafeteria Culture produced a film featuring these 5th graders – “Microplastic Madness”.
If a small group of young people can make that big of a difference, so can we.
