Single-Use Plastic is Harmful to your Health, and Your Children’s Health

Just look around you and see how much waste we produce – it’s quite incredible that our culture and others all over the world have become the single-use culture.  It’s not just plastic, but just about everything.  In the world of fashion, a large percentage of the clothes don’t get used at all before they are sent to the landfill and many are made from synthetic materials, including plastic.  Plastic has the biggest impact because it never ever ever goes away; it just breaks down into smaller bits.

Did you know that it is estimated that we’re consuming a credit card’s worth of plastic each week?

90% of the water we drink and the food we eat contain microplastics.

And, why does that matter?  It matters to our health because scientific studies are now showing that microplastics and even smaller bits of plastic pass into our bodies through our digestive tract and our lungs directly into our cells.  That single-use plastic is made with hazardous chemicals.

At our McSisters’ ages, we may not have had microplastics in our bloodstream all our lives, but children of today do.  In fact, well before they are even born they are exposed to microplastic from their mother’s bloodstream.  Then they are born and then ingest plastic in their mother’s milk, in baby bottles, in baby food containers, toys, etc  As they get a bit older they consume plastic in water bottles, and plastic bags, and plastic single-use food storage containers, and sports drinks.

You get the picture.

What can you do?  It’s super easy to start with small changes that make a huge difference.

  • Ask yourself – do I really need this product?  If not, then don’t buy it.

  • Use reusable products
