Give a plastic free Mother’s Day a try

A very Happy Mother’s Day to all of our subscribers, whether you are a mother or a child of a mother! Mothers almost always enjoy flowers. What better gift for the mothers in your life than one that comes without plastic!

With Mother’s Day coming soon we McSisters wish to introduce you to a website called “The Cool Down” that posts suggestions on how to be more sustainable to the planet. This includes shopping guides, products, inventions, and lots more. https://www.thecooldown.com

This week “The Cool Down” highlights the issues with flowers on Mothers Day.  To quote The Cool Down:

“If flowers are your gift of choice, you’re not alone. Americans spent nearly $3 billion on Mother’s Day flowers last year. Over 80% of all flowers sold in the U.S. are flown in from countries like Colombia, Ecuador, and the Netherlands — that’s over 30 jets daily. And it’s been estimated that up to 50% of those stems are thrown out because they’ve been damaged in transit or weren’t sold in time. The good news is, there are so many ways to avoid partaking in this waste while still wowing her with a gorgeous bouquet.”

They suggest ordering flowers from a great company called Farmgirl Flowers. Farmgirl Flowers was founded by 2 sisters who put sustainability and human rights first. https://farmgirlflowers.com/shop
